Autumn in the Okanagan is an awesome experience. Lake Okanagan is so huge that several wine growing microclimates exist from north to south, and west to east.
Stretching from Kelowna, British Columbia in the North to Oliver in the South, the wine region can produce Ice Wine that rivals Ontario’s and Germany’s; and Cabernet Sauvignon that rivals California’s Napa Valley or The State of Washington’s premiere areas.
The southern growing area is the northern tip of the Sonora Desert. Hot, dry and rocky. This is where, Nk’ Mip Winery is located, it is the only winery owned by Native Canadians.
I got to stay at the Duck and Pug, in Peachland, B.C., a Hilton for dogs! I had my own deck a few feet from the lake. It took a week to wine taste around the whole lake. And that was more entertaining than chasing the Canada Geese off the deck, by far.
